My mother-in-law gave us a bag of citrus and these were in them. She got them from a local grower but she didn't ask what they were. They are pretty good, sweet and very easy to peel. They look like an ugly Minneola Tangelo but it doesnt taste like it. Any takers?

I would guess it has King mandarin in the parentage, by the knobbly skin.
King is rather strong flavoured, another possibility is Kara mandarin(King X Satsuma)

There are other King hybrids around from breeding programs
Another possibility is another Tangelo such as Seminole, which is close to Minneola.

If they are extremely easy to peel, I'd consider 'Ponkan'. I'm not thinking 'King', but that's easy to determine -- if they are 'King', when you peel them by hand, so much peel oil will be expressed that your fingers will be absolutely dripping with oil. Far more than any other citrus I've ever peeled. 'Ponkan' won't do that. 'King' should also have a rich, spicy flavor, reminiscent of a good 'Temple'; 'Ponkan' will taste like a somewhat dilute tangerine this time of year (in Florida; I'm not sure about elsewhere).

Thanks for the replies.
I peeled one just moments ago and it was a little oily. I looked at the link provided and it does look similar to the Kara except so far there have been no seeds at all. The flavor is sweet and a little tangy. I have only had a few ponkans so I cannot make a good comparison.

I found some of these at my whole foods, The rind was so freaking oily I couldn't believe it, My hand was soaked after peeling one! I'm still thinking Gold Nugget, the leaf might help with ID.

These look an awful lot like Golden Nuggets too I think. I have seen them in various sizes and degrees of knobbly skin.

They definitely look like my CA grown Gold Nugget. Tell us if you find any seeds, otherwise I'd be willing to bet.

I think one of these months I'm going to pay a visit to the orchard to see and ask what they are. It's only like ten miles from here.
