In our yard, we have 1 citrus tree per inhabitant. Then again, if you count the rootstock I have started, we have about 6 trees per inhabitant (opposite of the world statistics). Does this mean we are outside the bell curve? Smile

Not really. You are way too normal for this group. A friend of mine in Brazil has 100,000 citrus trees per household member. So you'll have a lot of catching up to do!

I am at 40 trees per inhabitant. Fact: Every citrus tree in our yard has had a martini or cocktail made from it. Sipping on a Rangpur lime Caipirovska right now... (2 Rangpur Limes muddled, Vodka, Sugar, Water)

#2.. house hold fruit production.. will harvest 5 fruit this yr!!! Very Happy

Brands can be trademarked and trademarks are different than plant patents. A trademarked plant simply means you cannot use the same name to sell the same type of plant, but by all means you can propagate them, but not sell under the same trademarked name. So while there could be two thousand different brands, there could only be one cultivar, but that is on the extreme interpretation.

How do they define adulteration?
It is common for most commercial brands to define something as 100% juice and sold as such, which of course they define that the juice that they make from orange concentrate plus fructose, corn syrup, sodium benzoate as their juice, then it is indeed 100% unadulterated juice. Quite legal in today's interpretation of truth in advertising act, it depends on their definition. It is the same like saying 100% tea or 100% sports drink.

So how does one define adulteration or purity? Is adding stabilizers, pH balancers, and other chemicals to achieve uniform quality considered an adulteration, but not so, according to the US FDA.

But in my opinion only, even adding a drop of water to the extracted juice, I would consider adulterated. I just eat the fruit, that way I know it is unadulterated.

The two most common adulterants of orange juice are corn syrup and beet sugar.
