Here a quick few. I'll get more up later. Anyone that attended please add your photos here.
Scott & Stan McKenzie
Scott, Dr Lynn Derrick and Darren.
Scott opening a bottle of Joe Real's Calomondin wine. Everyone enjoyed it !
Some of the fruit from the competition.
Ned Rahn outside first thing in the morning (35 F) setting up his plant sale.
Gary brought down a bunch of his cold hardy palms from New Bern, N.C.
Almost forgot... This was taken at the mexican restaurant the night before. I guess we can now call him Stan the "Jammin" citrus man...

Thanks Lazz, I will try to post a few later - I am a tired puppy (ok, ok, it has been a while since I was a puppy!).
Joe, I had a taste of your wine an it was superb! Thanks to you for making it and to Lazz and Scott for giving me a sample!

Yeahber!
Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Pong, of Baltimore MD. for winning the long haul trophy of a bottle of JoeReal Cabernet vin 2004.
Met and remet some really nice folks.
I have met my new favorite citrus and it is called Limandarin. Thanks to Gaylord for sharing a fruit with me. Looks like a small yellow Dancy. Hint of sour nice sweet overtone. Got the seeds but hope to pry some budwood loose this spring.
I went over to share some seedlings with folks, I came back with more than I left with, including a warm fuzzy feeling. Could've been the cal wine.
I hope that everyone who attended could give feedback about their experience. I had a great time.

Scott, The guy in the middle of the picture with you and Darren is Dr Lynn Derrick from Newberry, SC. He has been to several of the Citrus Expo and has an interest in growing citrus. I believe he has a Juanita planted out in his yard there in Newberry. _________________ Y ORANGE U Growin Citrus

Wow, I wish I could really be there and enjoy the company, not only the citruses.
Scott, thanks for keeping your promise!
Thank you people for your kind words about the wine.
Now I only have to bottles left of that wine batch. One is for Millet and the other one's for Gina. I've been keeping them in my chiller to prevent their aging. I could not ship them anymore because the Feds have made it illegal for hobbyists to ship their wines. But for sure they can be hand carried by others. So I know one of these days, one of you could visit me here or I could come over and deliver those wines.
Anyway, perhaps 3 or 5 more years then I can have more free time. |

Thanks for the pics Laaz, and to everyone for making the event so special!
Stan you did yourself proud on the guitar at MiRancho
Thanks so much to Joe Real and Scott for sharing the spectacular Calamondin wine. What a treat!
Congrats to eyecker for the blue ribbon on his excellent fruit!
Ned, we stopped at Ben's on the way back- Unbelieveable!! I couldn't believe how huge and clean Mr. Croxton's GF is. No sooty mold and he doesn't seem to have a problem...

Keith, Sometimes I wonder if Professor C. doesn't have a special power watching that grapefruit for him! He gives it no special care or protection - I don't believe he even fertilizers it.

Darren, Keith, Stan, Ned, Terry, Joe R. and everybody else it was good to see you all again! Scott it was nice to finally meet you this year and great job hauling Joe's wine cross country. Ned shared a swig of it with me and I tell you it was out of sight! Joe I'm not much of a wine drinker but something as smooth as that would definitely change my mind. I was able to enjoy this expo better since i wasn't stuck in one room helping with judging like last year. The talks were very interesting and very entertaining. Mr Croxton was pretty funny. The citrus Q & A panel did a fine job as well. Nice work Keith!
Here's a pic of the panel:
A shot of Dr Bob's Morton Citrange entry:
Lemandarin entry:
On the city plantings tour Bob McCartney brought us to about seven places that he had planted many different types of trees which where not only citrus. He mentioned that he probably has planted thousands of trees in the city of Aiken that he has collected from all over the world. On one of the stops at an elementary school the citrus trees that were bearing fruit (Thomasville, Changsha, Calamandarin & Rusk) all had to be drastically pruned up because the kids were not eating the fruit but throwing them at each other. Wow! |
