G8 leaders want end to petrol-powered car
Everyone in Britain 'to be driving battery vehicles by 2020'

By Bob Roberts 9/07/2008

The G8 leaders revealed their roadmap for battling climate change yesterday - and there was no place on it for the petrol-powered car.

Under a deal agreed at the summit on the Japanese island of Hokkaido, they agreed to "at least a 50 per cent reduction in global emissions by 2050".

I don't know if that is good or bad, - probably bad. I can't remember anything that the government got involved in that turned out to work well. The governments track record has been beyond bad. Sound like a good way for government to further restrict the lives of its people. One of the axioms of America's Founding Fathers was: The best government is the least government. Our government has increased in size 60 percent since the 80's.- Millet

Whether we like it or not, change is on its way. Government or no government, all the strategic pieces are in place to begin eradicating at least half of our oil usage.

Let technological change pass you by or be part of the great history. After all, it took us about 100 years to become fully addicted to oil, it wouldn't be easy to get rid of that addiction.

Joe, I welcome any change that is for the better. I welcome any and all forms of energy. Energy is energy. I'm just saying we will be reliant on oil for many, many, many moons to come. Long past your and my lifetimes, and that of our children's life time. BTW, of the 42,000,000 gasoline American automobiles now on the road, I bet close to half are not yet paid for. So they will not be purchasing new for a while, even if the majority could afford it. Joe, get out of California, and the 8:00 to 5:00 rat race, and move to the clean air of our open western farm country, away form the city and all the crowds. It's a NICE LIFE I assure you. Take care, I wish you the best.- Millet

I'd like to do that escape from the rat race once in a while. And perhaps visit you over there. California is burning yet again, as expected. Smokes are over the entire valley. Then again, it is a natural phenomena. It was even worse in the 1800's.

We will have a long pleasant life to witness this turning point in history. It is sooner than you think. Those 42 Million cars, most of them will be phased out by BEVs, PHEVs, REEV's, and Fuel Cell cars and other advanced designs no longer based on oil. The old internal combustion engine technologies will slowly be phased out. The 42 million cars have only a few years to live. Replacing them can be done now, but not overnight, we will simply be ramping up production of their replacements.

There are exciting things happening, all the pieces are falling into place. It just took the $4/gallon treshhold to wake up the innovative giants that we are. This time, it will be for a better world.

I'll be preparing my findings and post it here. Year 2010 will be when the Americans will start to slowly phase out it's gasoline engines. It will not be a total phaseout, but most will be replaced. It will take only 15 years to replace half of our personal commuting fleet and it will have significant impacts.

I want everybody to prepare so as not to repeat how we are being strangled by the oil industry. This time, there is a way out.
