I read somewhere that they were in the same family the Rutace (probably misspelled). I will be actually tring this this weekend.

I think they are in the Moraceae family, both are easily propagated by cuttings, though some fig vars might be difficult.

Right, both on family Moraceae (Rutaceae is citrus). I've heard of fig being grafted to other species within the genus Ficus (it doesn't always work, but there are some species that can be used as nematode-resistant rootstocks), but I've never heard of fig being successfully grafted to genus Morus (mulberries). That seems like a stretch. Still, good luck, and please report any success!

If you are looking for nematode resistance, I suggest using LSU Purple as a rootstock. It is extremely vigorous, perhaps because of its better roots.
