In the online budwood orders of UCR CCPP from their Screenhouse plants, I've seen Giant Key Lime from Florida, with a VI#590 listed...
I am hoping that it is not a mistake. You will have to call or email the UCR CCPP to have access to their online order. Most of you in their listing must have received your userid and password.
There are no foundation block budwood orders, only from the screenhouses, and I saw Giant Key Lime listed in there! |

I just had four winds check to see if they could get for this budwood distribution so that they could graft. Not available. I was so bummed. Must have been a mistake and got pulled off the website. _________________ citrusboy aka marc

Marc,
If you go to online orders, then proceed to screenhouse order and scroll all the way down to limes/limettas section, the Giant Key Lime is still listed there.
You have 1 hr and 22 minutes.... as of this posting.
Good Luck!

IIRC (If I Remember Correctly), Giant Key Lime is thought to be cold hardier than the Mexican Key Lime. It's fruits are at least as large as Bearss Limes and could be slightly larger. It is mentioned by others to have stronger aroma than the Mexican Key Lime, but is more susceptible to some diseases (canker, tree trunk related problems and others that I can't recall at the moment). Here's the info from the TAMU website:
Quote: | "Giant key lime was released by ARS-USDA in 1994. It is a spontaneous autotetraploid Key lime seedling that was selected in 1973. The major difference in this lime is that its fruit are more than twice the size of common Mexican limes. " | |

Hi Joe,
Please keep me in mind if you would like to sell any of your extra budwood for the Giant Key Lime. I will call CCPP today to see if I can sign up for their online budwood order program.
Hope to see you at the next Santa Clara scion exchange if not sooner.
Thanks and best of luck.

So far I have T-budded unto Lisbon, bark grafted unto Meyer Lemon, and T-budded into two rootstocks of Volkameriana. I just hope one of them will take and become vigorous. |

Bark Grafts of Giant Key Lime unto Lisbon and Meyer Lemons are still green, almost a month now.
T-buds of Giant Key Lime on Meyer, Lisbon, and Eureka are all dead,
T-buds on the Volk are still holding... |

Good luck Joe!!! Hope they make it through to spring!!
Will you let a single fruit grow if it produces next spring?
I'd love to see pics of the fruit and it's progression if you do...
