Per Ned. The blades are in the carpet section @ Home Depot, not in the regular utility blade section. |

I spent an hour or more looking around and asking. I guess most would want their carpets installed by HD, so no one in there knew about beveled blades on one side only. |

Joe, I certainly believe you about Home depot's employees. They really have very little knowledge about their products, but they are possibly a tad bit "smarter" than wall mart "employees." Your on your own in both stores. -Millet |

The problem with one sided carpet blades is the notch on the top of the blade. Some Utility Knife blades have one notch, some have two notches and some have three notches. You need to purchase a knife handle that matches the blade. Ned told me he modified a handle to fit. He finally found the Personna, which will take any of the blades. It looks like I will wind up having to modify the handle. - Millet |

Took me less than 5 mins to find them in HD. There is a whole display section of "Personna" carpet knifes & blades. The ones you want are $12.97 for a pack of 100. They are listed as .017 "Chisel" blades. The HD I went to had about 20 packs of them. Yes they are right next to the big rolls of carpet. White packaging with blue lettering... |

I just took pictures of mine, and will post them tonight. I am now installing new windows in the house and am not allow to sit at the computer long.
To find the blades and utility knife. Got to the floor covering section. I don't think you will need to ask anyone, but if you do, make sure they work in that area. Near the end of one aisle (at ours the end towards the wall, or restroom end), you will find carpet tools. Special blades for cutting carpet, and various other tools of the trade. They will all be grouped in one little section. Both HD, and Lowes, seem to have Personna blades, but here I have only found the utility knife at HD (actually it was at Hilton Head). The knife is a simply aluminum handle with a red plastic, quarter turn locking mechanism. The package is labeled "accepts all utility blades", or something to that effect. Being small and simple, it fits in the hand well - I like it a lot and only use my grafting knife to open the pocket on the rootstock.
I don't know why, but I have been unable to find handles in utility knife section in "tools" that will take a one notch blade.
Before I found one in the store, I took an old aluminum handle I had, and cut out all but one of the protrusions that hold the blade. It worked fine.

A cut with a sharp knives heals much faster than a cut with a dull one. I use a tina 683 and use the knife blade to lift the bark. Also use a norton india oil stone to shapen the knife.
Smoky mountain has a fair budding knife for $1.99 plus shipping. It is a shrade and does have a bark lifter built on the blade. I have a shrade walden #174 fixed blade that was bought about 1969 that is like new. Also have another that is worn. The worn one is best for budding kumquat. |

While out doing errands yesterday, I stopped at HD and another big box here called Menards and they don't have the carpet blades. They showed the carpet blades they use and they are bevelled/sharpened on both sides.
Guys said they never heard of them. _________________ Patty

Here is the Personna utility knife. They are located in the flooring section where they have the various cutting tools used in carpet installation. It is a small display (maybe 4' x 6'), so it is easy to miss. They had the knives here about a week ago, but were out of blades.

Ned thanks for obtaining the knife and sending it. With the Personna knife one never needs to sharpen another blade. - Millet |

You are welcome Bob. For cutting buds I don't use anything else. I do use a single edge razor sometime to form the T, especially with small stuff. When using the razor blade, I just hold it between my thumb and forefinger. |
