There is a a new citrus showing up in specialty produce stores here and I would like to know what cultivar they are. They are marketed as Mini honey mandarins and are very sweet, generally have 10 segments though some have 12 and are mostly seedless and a very thin zipper skin. The size range is very similar to key limes the segments are very easy to separate. These are a product of China. They showed up in early December.
Does anyone know what variety these may be?
Once again they are Super sweet. And a must have!
I am going to try and germinate some seeds.
Idea

Thanks, Greg

yep, these are W. Murcott. My friend Doland Young nurseried over 150,000 trees of this variety not long ago and they are now showing up in the stores. It seems the name Honey and W. Murcott are often used interchangeably. There is also a variety called Honey, but the growers in FL started marketing and using the name Honey for the W. Murcott. The trick to getting them seedless is to not have any other varieties near by so they don't cross pollinate. They are self infertile as to seed, but will still make fruit.
