Very exciting for the Church! I was hoping for someone from Central or South America.

Funny thing is, he is the son of Italian immigrants to Argentina.

Not too much of a stretch from the norm.

Pope Francis was born on Dec. 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, one of five children of an Italian immigrant father who worked on the railways.
Francis, the son of middle-class Italian immigrants, is known as a humble man who denied himself the luxuries that previous Buenos Aires cardinals enjoyed. He rode the bus to work, cooked his own meals and regularly visited the slums that ring Argentina's capital. - Millet

What we should demand of all our leaders....humility. I'm always very embarrassed when I see any of our leadership living the high life. It's disgusting, especially in tough times, and I loose all respect for them and anything they have to say.

Pope Francis (of Assisi) has only one lung. He lost his other lung when he was just a small boy.- Millet
