I just wanted to thank everyone here for all of the help (both direct and indirect) with getting started in this hobby and share some photos of my plants.

The meyer is now putting on a pretty good amount of growth.

It also has a number of blooms and I believe I even see a little fruitlet starting to develop.

My first attempt at growing key lime from seed is actually going pretty well also. The seedling has put out a number of leaves (and thorns).

After reading about Millet's 24 seedling experiment (and the technique for removing the testa from the seed), I figured I'd try it on a stray seed I found from a minneola I bought at the store. This started out as a practice just to see if I could do it without destroying the seed but I decided to try and germinate the seed to see what would happen. I now have 3 seedlings from the seed and am interested to see how they turn out.

Based on that success, I decided to try it on another batch of key lime seeds I had. I'm pretty happy with the results so far.

Thanks again to all and I look forward to learning even more.

Brad

You probably already know, but the Minneola seeds are not true. It could be interesting to see what it produces though.

A couple weeks ago I planted a full germination tray (Root Maker) with 18 Minneola seeds. I planted Minneola precisely because they do not come true to type from seed. I will select 3 of the best, healthiest, strongest seedlings to grow on. Like Skeet says, seeds that do not produce true varieties from seed are interesting to grow. Actually, I almost never plant true to type seeds any more, as I can just purchase those type of trees from a nursery, and not have to spend years waiting for the seedling to mature. Normally, seeds that produce non true to type trees, produce inferior fruit, but not always. Many of the top commercial citrus sold in stores today were from chance seedlings. Who knows, you could be famous.- Millet

Thanks Skeeter, I've read a few other posts as well that say they don't come true and that doesn't really bother me. I started off using it as just practice so I had no plans to even grow them but may let them grow out a bit and see what comes from it if I have the space. I assume these won't fruit nearly as fast as the key limes, is this correct? My guess would be more like 5 or so years? I'll be moving soon so I'll evaluate the space I have to see if I'm going to keep them going.
