Hello.
I have never tried to grow grapefruit from cuttings. I have searched on the internet about that and it seems that you can make grapefruit cuttings root.
My questions are:
Can I make it fruit on it's on roots in a container? And if yes after how many years will I see a grapefruit on it? (The parent tree is fruiting for a while.)
Is it recommended to grow it from cuttings?

Yes they root easy and if you take mature wood, they should start to fruit in a year or two. Grapefruit do get rather large, even in containers.

I had a grapefruit tree for 19 out of my 20 years of life on this earth and I never saw any fruit!! Grr. What could I have done wrong?

A seedling grapefruit will not fruit in a container unless you are very lucky. Get a grafted grapefruit and you will have no problem.
