Schefflera, a native of Australia, was named after J.C. Scheffer of Danzig, who was a very interesting man. Scheffleras will grow rapidly in just about any reasonably good soil, and thrives in partial shade. When grown in containers, they should be watered moderately, not frequently enough to keep the soil constantly saturated, nor so seldom that the earth ever becomes really dry to the extent that the foliage wilts. Plants that have filled their containers with roots benefit from receiving applications of dilute liquid fertilizer at weekly or biweekly intervals. Light shade from the strong sun should be provided. You can propagate your plant easily from cuttings and air layering. The last method is very useful for pot grown specimens that have grown tall and leggy. I have a containerized Schefflera that is 28 years old. Easy plant to grow. Good luck. - Millet (1,428-)
