Here is a photo of the largest fruiting Japanese Persimmon that I have ever seen taken at Just Fruits and Exotics near Medart,FL with the owner Brandy Cowley-Gilbert.

Here is a description of it taken from their website-
Quote:
GIANT HANAFUYU NON-ASTRINGENT PERSIMMON Exceptionally large, brilliant, reddish-orange fruit. Trees are very small, a good choice for patios and smaller gardens. Giant Hanafuyu has an excellent flavor, rich and sweet. Yellow fall color. This variety was a selection given us by Dr. Timothy Crocker. Ripens September and October. Zones 7-9.
I enjoyed tasting it's apple crisp excellent flavored fruit today WinkI can highly recommend it.

Hana Fuyu is great for salad because it is not as sweet as Fuyu. I love it best while it is still firm. When it has softened on the tree, it doesn't come close in taste to a soft ripe Hachiya. The softened Hana Fuyu would be bland tasting. But when firm, it is excellent.

Hi Joe,
This year I have eaten a over a dozen Hachiyas- they are so tender, juicy , soft and sweet as sugar that other varieties pale in comparison. Saturday after eating some outside my hands and face were so sticky from all that Hachiya sugar that I had to leave my work outside at at the nursery to go inside to wash my hands and face Very Happy BUT if not super soft they are terribly astringent Mad

Truly the best tasting persimmon from my yard is Saijo. It is astringent like Hachiya, only smaller. But when soft ripe, it is like a combination of sweetened condensed milk with honey and caramel.
