Am I right thinking that sweet sop can be self-pollinating, but because they are protogynous it is just highly unlikely?

I did a thesis on asimina triloba (the common pawpaw) (sweet sop's closely related cousin) pollinators, so I understand the dynamics(I'm a sci student). In the case of asimina triloba, plants are known as self-incompatible.

I saved seeds from a sweet sop and planted many. Only one has sprouted thus far(and is doing well!). I just don't want to wait 4 years to realize...damn...should have had 2 plants.

Thanks for the info,
Steve

Sweetsop (sugar apple, anĂ³n, Annona squamosa) comes in self-compatible and self-incompatible cultivars. So it just depends on what you've planted. When they do bloom, you can hand pollinate them, or in nature, they are pollinated by nitidulid beetles.

Thanks Malcom,
Here's hoping I have a self-compatible variety.
If not, guess I'm buying another tree.
