When I first started selling citrus trees back in 1999, an elderly lady and her sister bought a small changsha mandarin tree from me. I recieved a call last week to come by and sample the fruit from their7 year old tree. Every limb was loaded and the fruit was completly colored up and ready to eat. Some what seedy but the taste is good! BTW Thats a keraji mandarin to the left.. It has outgrown the changsha considerably!

Those are ideal spots to plant them in the colder zones. Next to heat absorbing and heat releasing south facing or west facing wall. Specially if made of bricks, that would mean a lot of heat radiating into the trees for microclimate protection. The overhangs likewise provide the overhead protection too.

Where are these wonderful plants located?

Beautiful Changsha Stan. Was it grafted on FD?

Thanks for the pic!

Hi Stan,
Thanks for sharing this-I sampled the fruit of Changsha last Sunday at Just Fruits and Exotics in Medart and loved it.Like you said it is seedy-but is very juicy, sweet and flavorful-tasted more like a sweet orange than a mandarin to me.I immediately fell in love with it-so I bought one and can hardly wait for it to produce for me. Here is an older one growing in a fair bit of shade at Just Fruits (zone8b)

Joe, the plants are located just outside Lake City, SC.. a zone 8a. I instructed the ladies when they bought the trees to plant them near a brick wall, preferably on the south side of the house. They followed the instructions and now have two beautiful citrus trees. The changsha is grafted on FD.. They usually get much taller than this.
