Apparently tristeza (CVT) was discovered at the California Citrus Clonal Protection Program in a Citrumelo within the Lindcove Foundation and Evaluation Block of trees. The infected tree was removed and additional testing is underway to ensure no other trees are infected. If so, they hope to resume the budwood program in June.

They've sent me letters of apology why they suspend my orders. January would have been the best time as I usually will have tremendous growth when budded earlier in the season. The June budwoods are quite iffy when it comes to growth, especially when summers become very hot. I haven't tried the fall season cutting.

They might send some budwoods if they can obtain them from the screenhouses, especially for all early releases. Too bad I did not order early release cultivars.

For me, this is a great action and service they are doing. It is better to be safe than sorry especially when the entire industry could be at stake. So I am not complaining.

Joe,

Didn't intend to imply any criticism of CCRP. I agree, better safe than sorry. My use of the emoticon was meant to convey sadness of the effect of CVT on the citrus industry and us hobbyists, as well as the fact that the extent of infection at Lindcove is not yet fully known. Hopefully, it was limited to the single Citrumelo. Considering that CVT is not new to our state and how infrequent CCRP stock tests positive for it, I am guessing this is more of a nuisance issue. Perhaps the worst effect is it delays the introduction of new varieties to nurseries and commercial growers.

After having read the announcements, I find myself paying more attention to the aphids on my Cara Cara. Previously I hadn't fully appreciated the threat they can pose.

P.S. What budwood had you ordered?

No need to clarify, I read what you really meant the first time. Today it was very warm. I am going to apply pesticides tomorrow.
