I read somewhere that the seeds from variegated trees have a very good chance of growin out variegated as well. Is this the experience of others here? |

Not at all. Most all that I have tried produced almost 100% albino plants that died rather quickly. I have gotten some green plants, but never a variegated plant. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Have you ever got a green seedling of a pink Eureka lemon?
I wonder if the flesh is still pink. It would be nice and new. |

Sylvain I have never tried variegated lemons as they are so easy to root. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

The Pink Lemonde was found as an seedling in Australia and is originally NOT variegated.
The Variegated is a mutation of it. |

Parentage/origins: Reported to have originally come from New Zealand at an unknown time.
They do not know then ...
I know it from Australia, where it is still populary and sold in many nurseries.
The Variegated Version is unknown there, while very well known in USA. |

Sanguinello, are you saying that the University of California, and the Citrus Variety Collection people are wrong about the origin of the Variegated Pink Lemon?
It seems that anymore, the Variegated Pink Fleshed Lemon tree is sold just about everywhere I go. I have always stayed away from purchasing the tree, as it is not a very vigorous tree, and the fruit production is sorely lacking, as compared to most all other lemon varieties. The fact that the tree is variegated means nothing to me.

I say they don´t know where it came from.
As I quoted they THINK it came from NZ which is oftenly mixed up with Australia ... |

I've never heard of any pink lemon in Australia, or seen variegated lemon in nuirseries, (i know of 3 V lemons, 2 are gone now)
I doubt if USDA is 100% correct, even there own webpages show that some cultivars are mislabeled/lost labeled, or 2 accessions reduced to one registration number etc, but at least they give full details of these changes when known. |
