Hello Everybody,

Anybody out there growing Chinese grapefruit? The tree I got came from Four Winds Nursery. I bought the tree last year with no flower or fruit on it. My tree is very healthy and vigorous in terms of pushing out new growth (grown in a half wine barrel). However, I have not see any flower buds yet while other citrus like pomelo, mandarins, lemons, limes, grapefruit, and calamansi are pushing out flower buds. Please share your experience.

Just give it time. The blooms will come on the new growth (flush). If not on this flush, it should surely bloom on the next flush. You will need to be VERY CAREFUL if you planted one of Four Winds small trees in a barrel as large as a half wine barrel. Being in an over sized barrel like that, can cause soluble salts to build up with each watering and fertilizing. Depending on the total amount of soluble salts in your irrigation water, and also the type of medium you used to plant the tree in, trouble can easily come in 6 - 12 months. - Millet (316 BO-)

Hi Millet,

Thanks for your expert opinion. I feel relieve now knowing that my tree is not a dud. My medium is consist of small barks, peat moss, perlite, and with large barks for mulch. When the weather get warmer, I will buy filter water for this tree so the salts built up can leach out. Razz
