The Ugli tree that was bought as a Clementine Laughing has produced 2 large fruit that I left on the tree for as long as possible to build up sugar levels during our spring.
Fruit showed it's relationship to the pummelo with half inch thick peel. Flavor was grapefruity with some sweetness but I guess I left them too long as the inside had a dry texture.
Pleased I accidently grew this tree and hopefully next year I can get them with the perfect texture.

Actually it reminds me more of a citrus aurantium "corniculata"...

Rather strong grapefruity scent when leaves crushed.
Figured it was an Ugli because of the similarity with these pictures

I am wondering what others' experiences are with the Ugli? Any found around here (Ohio) are seedless and good flavored. The only downside is that the skin around each section (not sure the correct name for it) is really tough and chewy. I am considering growing it just for the flavor, even if it is slightly bitter like the ones I get in the store. But maybe there is another citrus that is similar flavored, but without the chewyness? And maybe my part indoor/outdoor growing will never be warm enough to produce good fruit, since the consensus seems to be it needs a lot of tropical warmth. Then again, I am going to grow grapefruit and pummelo, so...

Very majestic. Congrats Glenn!

Gleen -,

Would you able to look my pictures and determine which one/both are an Ugli fruit?

Thanks in advance,
