Home Depot where I live has about six 4-5 foot tall Meyer lemon trees that are currently priced at $22 after being discounted a few times.

They are all flowering / fruiting, and appear to be healthy.
I just cannot make up my mind to buy one or not.

A few questions
I'm guessing this is a good price?
Just how cold hardy are these things anyway?

The main reason I haven't bought one is that I already have a house full of plants, trees, seed starting flats, etc. - (things that have to be brought in for winter) If this would be yet another thing I would have to drag in and out of the house year after year, my interest level drops quite a bit.

I'm trying to walk that thin line between obsession and utility when it comes to citrus.

Meyer is one of the easiest lemons to root. They are hardy down to the upper teens for short periods. If I was you, in a marginal area like yours I would find a rooted cutting. If it freezes to the ground, it will come back true. If you buy a grafted tree & it freezes, all you'll have is rootstock.

I have one in the ground here in Dorchester county & it has never had any damage. If I remember correctly, the lowest it saw was 17f for a few hours years ago.

Thanks for the info.

I read somewhere over the weekend that Meyer lemons could be kept pruned around 6 feet and still be productive, so I decided to buy one, even if it does have to come inside in the winter.

I do have 3 or so meyer lemon seedlings that I will experiment with outdoors.

Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean these seedlings would eventually produce some random type of citrus (a sour lemon, a big watery orange)?
(or would it be relatively like a "Meyer Lemon"?

They should be "like" meyers, but could be anything depending on what pollinated them.
