Most people are familiar with the names given to the various parts of a citrus flower, but few people know what the words mean, or the words origin. See below.....

Calyx and Sepal: From Greek = "Covering"
Corolla: From Latin = "little crown"
Petal: From Greek = "Thin plate"
Stamen: From Latin = "Thread"
Anther: From Greek = "Flower"
Perianth: From Greek = Literally means "around the flower"
Pistil: Latin = "Pestle" (referring similarities in the shape of the two objects
Stigma: Greek = "Spot"
Style: From Latin = "Stylus" (a narrow, pointed instrument)
Ovary: From Latin = "Egg"
Ovule: From Latin = "Little Egg"
