I was collecting seeds from my cara cara red navels and noticed that the fruit 2 1/4 inch in diameter was seedless. The larger fruit 3+inches in diameter had 4-6 seeds. Anyone else notice this?

I just harvested about 100 navels. Some have a few seeds and some have none. I thinks its just luck of the draw with pollination.

It's well-documented in tangelos that seed number and fruit size are nicely correlated (very obvious in 'Minneola'); but I did not realize it happened in 'Cara Cara' as well. Good observation.

Phil, presently my Cara Cara has a lot of fruit ready to pick. As normal, some of the fruit are quite large and some smaller. I thank you for your observation, and I will record size to seed count. I really enjoy Cara Cara, and am delaying picking my fruit, because they are currently available in the store. By withholding harvest until the store no longer has Cara Cara I can greatly expand the season of enjoyment. - Millet (1,107-)
