Temperatures in my greenhouse have been about 90F days and 55F nights for a few weeks now and all trees are in full growth, even kumquats and trifoliate seedlings. In a few days we should see our last below freezing nights, but high-30s to mid-40s at nights will be normal for a while. When is it a good idea to bring plants outside? I don't want to shock them now tha they think it is summer.

As soon as possible. I moved them on the balcony, when i have seen there is no frost alert in next 15 days. This year very early, on 5 th of march.

Brian,

I Live in NJ Just Outside Of NYC. I Have Been Bringng My Trees Outside From My Greenhouse Several Times During The Past Month But Have Had To Bring Them In Again As The Night Temperatures Keep Dropping Below 30°F And My Leaves Showed A little damage Even when I Coveraged Them. My trees Are In 4 And 5 Gallon Pots. It Is Supposed To Go To 28°F Tonight And Below 30°F The Next Two Nights After That. I Just Finished Bringing Them All In again today and I Have 38 Trees so It Is Hard Work. For You It Would Even Be Harder As Your Trees Are On The 2nd Floor. I Think Your Temperatures May Be Colder Than Mine. I Am In Zone 7 (Just recently Revised From Zone 6). We Might Have To Wait Another Week Yet. I Am Afaid To Take The Chance Of Losing Some Or Even All Of Them.

Yeah I really don't wanna have to bring them back in again! Of course it is snowing outside right now :-/ But it isn't likely to stay cold past tomorrow. I'm just worried they will go back into dormancy or otherwise have issues going from summer-like weather to spring, especially since many have open flowers right now.

Brian:

Sounds like you need to figure out how to cool down your greenhouse. I may not remember the details of your GH all that well. But some venting to allow another month inside might be worth the effort. Just a thought.

I am just using fans to vent outside air, so it is always 10-20F above ambient temperature and it was 80F a few times outside. I think it will go back to normal 50-70F for a while though.
