Does anyone have detailed information about the 9 Pound Lemon? This is not the same as the Ponderosa Lemon or the Panzarella Lemon. As far as I can tell it is the largest citrus but I can't find any detailed information on it. Any seeds or cuttings would of course be most welcome, which I'm happy to compensate for.

Hi gdbanks, thanks for replying. I thought so too at one point but from what I can tell the correct nickname for the Ponderosa is actually the 5 Pound Lemon, because that's what it can usually weigh up to. It seems it gets incorrectly labelled as the 9 pound lemon.

The 9 Pound Lemon on the other hand does weigh up to 9 pounds and is a monster citrus. The Epcot Centre at Disney has them in their experimental greenhouses. Short passage about that here:

Unfortunately I can't find any detailed information about this variety, this is the only hit on google I get except for the mislabellings of the Ponderosa.

I found 2 youtube videos of the Disney Epcot centre that briefly show the 9 Pounder Lemon on their boat ride:

The first time I heard of the 9 Pound Lemon was in the catalogue of The Citrus Centre UK (page 9):

http://www.citruscentre.co.uk/The%20Citrus%20Centre.pdf

They specialise in selling only citrus and they list the 9 Pounder seperately from the Ponderosa which they also carry. Unfortunaetly they don't have any for sale at the moment, otherwise I'd snap one up!

I grow both and they seem to produce different fruit for me. The Ponderosa is a citron x lemon hybrid while the Nine Pounder appears to be some other type of lemon hybrid. I'm still waiting on my Panzarella Lemon to fruit.

Here is where I did a short comparison between them a couple of years ago:

Ive got more fruit this year so maybe I'll take an even closer look when I harvest these 'lemons' in the coming months.

Hi eyeckr, thanks for replying and for the great information and pics! I missed your older post when I searched the forum, I enjoyed reading it and looking at the pics. Your pics must be the only up close quality pics of the Nine Pounder on the net, I can't find any others.

Was interesting to see the comparison between the Nine Pounder and the Ruby Red grapefruit and Ponderosa, and to think it was an immature fruit that fell off early that hadn't reached maximum size! When your Panzarella Lemon eventually fruits it would be fun to see all three compared side by side.

I would definately appreciate another comparison when you harvest this year's fruits, especially since the older post was a baby Nine Pounder that fell early. Treat us to some pics of the full grown monster please lol.

Did you get full size Nine Pounders last year? Do they really weigh 9lbs?

Anyone else growing the nine pound lemon? I would love to see some more pictures (not those from EPCOT) Smile

I have a couple branches of panzarella lemon whose budwood I got from John Panzarella from the original tree. Last year I had 6 fruit and this year I'll have about the same. My "lemons" eventually got sweet! They are not the same as a panzarella "orange." I had a mature tree and topworked it as the fruit wasn't too good.
