It's been a bad spring here in England for trifoliate orange plants.
February was spectacularly warm and the flower buds were almost ready to open at the start of March. Then it turned cold and frosty for March and April. The flower buds mostly turned brown and dropped off. Young leaf shoots were also damaged. So my two mature plants have set only a few fruits on each.
Today I noticed a very strange late flower on one of my trees. It is a double flower with a ring of small leaves behind it. I'm pretty certain it is a one-off event caused by some genetic or physical damage to the bud as it formed. But, just in case, I will tag the shoot and see if it forms a similar flower next year. If so, it would be worth propagating.
