How are you citrus hobbyists faring down there in the South? The news are horrible, more than 700 homes already consumed by the fire as of this morning's news.

We hope and pray for your safety, your family, and if possible, your citruses too...

Just Concerned In Northern California,

My work was almost burned down the first night and the city has been under mandatory evacuation ever since so I haven't been able to go to work. My boss on the other hand has been evacuated twice. He was evacuated from his house and moved in with his mother in law. She was evacuated the next night. On the home front, Santee has been spared from the fires this go around. Just a lot of smoke, ash, and burning eyes, troat, and cabin fever from being cooped up.

Thanks Millet. Through all of the tragedy you see many prayers being answered.

The water district that I work for had the electricity running to the pump station burned up an all of the water tanks quickly drained until no water was left to fight the fire except recycled and untreated in the agricultural areas miles from town. All of the homes in the town were completely vulnerable and without fire protection. I can tell you that there were many prayers that night that turned the fire away from town. There could have been over 5,000 homes destroyed in this one town alone.

Our good friend pitangadiego of http://encantofarms.com told me that their friend's mother lost a house. He lost 5 bananas due to strong winds. But otherwise he is okay.

More than 1,300 structures burned down. 315,000 people evacuated. Reported by local newspaper early this morning.

Above all this, a lot of prayers were answered, as there is very little loss of life.

I was in the field yesterday doing damage assessment for one of our pipelines after the fires. I took a few pictures of the damage. The growers in Ramona have been hit hard this year. The frost of 2007 killed many trees, a 30% mandatory cutback on water goes into effect, and now the fires burned many of the groves. The first picture is an Avocado grove and the rest are pictures I took of our water facilities.
