Here I thought I was safe from the dreaded orange dog caterpillar in Arkansas. Nope, not hardly. I went out a few minutes ago and was checking my trees since something has been chewing on the leaves. I thought that the grasshoppers were back doing their deadly munching. It wasn't the grasshoppers I found but a huge orange dog caterpillar. Its only 1 but he/she appears to have a voracious appetite for my Valencias.
I thought that orange dogs liked warm temperate weather and not the sometimes COLD stuff we have here. I also thought it was a bit late in the season for them as most places see them around May. Hopefully this is just an isolated incident and I have no reason to worry.
I suppose with the influx of the citrus hobby, states previously without the citrus pests not have a chance of acquiring them.
