Buddha's hand flowers need pollination?

One of the flower buds on my new buddha's hand tree is about to open. Do these flowers need pollination to start forming fruits?

By the way - I read somewhere that buddha's hand fruits never contain any seeds. If that's correct, how does it propagate naturally?

Yes they are self fertile and propagation is by rooting or grafting. Buddhas hand really has no flesh, it is all pith.

Does this mean buddha's hand is a cultivar and doesn't exist in nature?

More than likely a bud mutation. Dr. Manners may know more about the origin of Buddhas hand.
