Skeeter,
subtropical cannot compete with mediterran climate.
A mediterran clima means hot summers, often with less rain, followed by cold winters, with usually no or only very short freezes.
Average temperatures and maximum heat units are generally lower, than in the subtropics.
That's why fuit from the subtropics have more sugar, than in the mediterran, but deliver usually the best climate for maximum sugar levels and fine acid components for fresh fruit consumption.
Fruits from the tropic are generally more flat in taste, because the ripening goes to fast, so there is sugar in the fruit, but the balance of high sugar and some acid is missing, but making those fruit desireable for processing (less acids usually, but much water Wink )

But, usually: Taste is something one should not discuse about, because I have another taste than you and we won't match...
So U will prefer another fruit and taste than I would do... so different climatic harvests will so provide their fruits usually to their poeple matching their taste.
