Hi guys, my Volkamer lemon is dropping some leaves and they look like they're suffering from some kind of deficiency. Can anyone tell me what this is?

I have the tree potted in chc but the root ball is still in the original soil, so maybe that has something to do with it. I fertilize with jack's 5-1-3 ratio fertilizer every two weeks and the tree is in a clay pot. It's in a south facing window where it gets 4 to 6 hours of sun every day.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Also forgot to mention I've had this tree in the same spot for 9 years and I've never had this problem. In fact it just got a huge new flush of growth about a month ago, but the new growth has also stopped.

Laaz, millet, skeet, dr manners and others frequent these forums alot and always give a good observation by looking at the full tree. Just my opinion

Could it be a case of root problems?

How fast does the water drain out of the pot when watering?

How deep is the tree planted in the pot?

What does the bottom of the media look like?
You can lay the pot on it's side, ease the media out and see if the media has been packed and the condition of the roots.

Probably over watering. Or a over-retaining water soil.

I am by no means an expert but by my experience, I would say that these leaves are old leaves that the tree is finally discarding to make way for the newer leaves. Just my thoughts on the matter. My best to you and your tree. Tim.

Thanks for the replies everyone but my tree is toast. It kept dropping leaves and the branches started to die back, and it eventually just went on the compost pile after going completely bare. It's sad, because I've had it for so long and it was a nice looking tree, but it was never going to produce good fruit anyway. I'll be satisfied with my cocktail grapefruit and Meyer Lemon, they're enough work as it is. I don't know how Millet does it with over a hundred trees.
