I'm doing this for my first time, budding, grafting, cuttings.

My question is on my grafts to rootstock. I cut the stock to 6 inches above ground... on one I use a bit younger graft stick and it seems fresh and green two weeks later. The second I used a two bud shorter bit more mature piece. That one has browned and does not look good. If my guess is correct and it did not take can I cut that stock once again.... maybe take another inch off and add another graft.....?

Thanx

Sure you can. 1-2 inch lower should be perfect. Depends how did you grafted it.

In budding, the general procedure is to graft the bud, then 3 to 4 weeks later after it is apparent it has taken, begin the forcing process. There are 4 ways the bud can be forced; cutoff, bending, breaking and notching. With fall grafting in temperate climates, that is not done until the following spring.

With bark grafting you do cut the stock off and place a stem on the cut off stump. The problem I have had when trying to regraft a bark graft is that the bark will not slip after the stock has been cut off.

One option for regrafting or grafting in general when the bark will not slip is to use techniques that do not require slipping bark--like chip and cleft grafting.

Is there any chance I can get two buds grafted onto one stock at the same time...... I cut my notch/slit and slipped two into one stock..... ?

I often put 2 buds on a limb when I graft--usually about 6-8 inches apart. If you are doing seedlings you may want to put them closer.
