I would like to start grafting as soon as possible,and i am wondering what would be a good time for my area,zone 7. I am in container growing.

You will get the best results when the rootstock is in active growth. If you are T-budding you want the bark to be slipping. If you are cleft grafting you can try at any time, but I still get best results when the rootstock is in active growth. Spring would be your best bet.

I like to harvest scion wood in early Spring BEFORE it has its first growth flush. Keep in fridge in ziplock with damp paper towel until your rootstock bark is slipping.

This way, your scion wood has lots of good still dormant buds to chose from.

But again, I don't know your particular situation. Are you talking about indoor plants? Outdoor plants?

Need more data from you.
