I'm new to gardening. I just got a lisbon lemon tree from my local nursery. I haven't planted it yet. I have a few questions I'd like to ask yall first. (I live in zone 8b, I think I'm in a good location?)

Is there a way to tell if it was grafted? (I'm just curious?) If it was grafted, could I still use the seeds to grow another lisbon tree if I wanted?

Here are some pics of libby (that's her name Very Happy) :

I'd like to know how old she is, can anyone make a guess?

Does the tree look okay?

I have clay soil. What do I need to do to ensure she won't die because of root rot now and in the future?

Anything else I should know about growing this particular tree?

Also, I think she was abandoned at the nursery, she was waay in the back with a ton of tall grass/ weeds in the pot. (I pulled all that out with as much of the roots as I could.) Other than that, I haven't done a thing to her.

Need better photos of the trunk to tell if it's grafted or not.

Just to let you know, A lisbon lemon will not survive in 8b without a whole lot of protection. You may want to keep it in a container.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Smile I'm more worried about how to plant her and protect her then whether or not she's grafted. I saw the tree, got excited and bought it without doing my research first. I've been wanting a lemon tree for a while. Smile I'm trying to do the research now, I just wanted to ask those ?'s of people with experience. It's hard to find reliable information. Smile Thanks for the info, I may have to leave it in a pot! I was hoping to plant it though. Sad

Show a picture of the bottom 4-18 inches of the trunk. Then we should be able to see if it is a grafted tree. However if you purchased it from a commercial nursery the chances of it being a grafted tree is very good. Whether it is grafted or not, you will be able to use the seeds to produce another Lisbon lemon. However a lemon grown from seed could take 6-10 years before it becomes mature and begins to fruit.
