I've heard people mention so-called 'blind buds' on the budwood and that they should be avoided. Where do these blind buds occur and how would you ever know they exist? I mean when citrus flush out in Spring, they seem to flush from the most terminal buds don't they?

Also, is there any difference in success percentage between doing a T-cut vs. an inverted T. Is there an advantage to one or the other? I find the regular T-cut quicker to make. Make the horizontal cut first, then bring down the vertical from the horizontal.

The first 2 or 3 buds on the branch are usually blind buds & will not flush out. I use the inverted T because for me it easier to insert the bud & slide it up into place.

Thanks. I don't understand though. Are you refering to the 'first 2 or 3 buds' from the current growth -- the most terminal (distal) buds?

What if you are harvesting budwood from growth that is from last season or the season before that? I mean, you can't use a bud that has already sprouted.

When you say 'first' are you talking proximal or distal? Proximal being from the root side and distal being from the terminal side. Does that make sense?

First as in the first 2-3 from the new growing point. Cut the budstick off & go to the bottom of the stick, first 2-3 buds (bumps) don't use.

OK, I get it.

I harvested budwood AFTER the growth flush and honestly didn't find much good budwood. Are you supposed to harvest the budwood just BEFORE the Spring growth flush and keep it in the fridge until bark slips -- then graft? -- maybe for a few weeks?

Thanks!
