I have been growing a musa sikkimensis banana plant for a few years. This year it seems Spring come about a month early and my plant and its pup are already 5-7ft tall.
For me, these are as hardy or more so than musa basjoo.

I'm thinking I may possibly get fruit this year. I'm curious if anyone here has grown this musa ?

The reason I am asking is that the info on the net is so contradictory, and seems often is just copied and pasted from site to site.

I've read in a few places that the fruit are full of seeds, but edible if you eat around them.
I'm thinking if this is true, I could squeeze them through a colander and make banana bread or something.

I bought seeds on the net to grow my original plant (only one seed out of ten germinated) even if the fruit are not really edible, I would still like to be able to produce my own seed for propagation.

I grow one a few feet away from a Basjoo. My findings are different. Any tinge of frost and it begins to burn while the Basjoo shows no change. It does overwinter just as well under a pile of mulch.

Of course, I am much more north than you. And it makes no difference here as both have to be cut down and covered for the winter.

MY Sikkimensis are also growing side by side with Musa Basjoo. They seem pretty equal in hardiness at least here where I am.

In any case mine are close to as big right now at the beginning of Spring that they were mid summer last year- so maybe I will get them to fruit and be able to answer my own questions.
