I asked from another Forum what is this kind of banana since I don''t know what it is.
I am surprised what I found.
Here's the picture.
and here'sthe answer from my question:
Is enano gigante a good banana to plant in your backyard?
How tall can it get and does it fruit faster than others?
........Dwarf Cavendish in the English language. This is a beautiful plant with a very large bunch of cavendish type bananas.I would say a height of about 5 feet or less would produce fruit.Very common here in Fl.,not sure about Cali.
Here is a pic.............
I thought I'd put this thing here. You guys may be interested getting one.
I sur am. |

Benny, Dwarf Cavvendish is an easy banana to grow. Use a fertilizer that has a higher level of potassium. BTW a pup from the banana shown in my Avatar has grown up and it is producing bananas at this time. - Millet |

Laaz and Millet:
Thanks for the encouragement.
And Millet, that's a wow for the banana you've got.
I've always admire your avatar and to me that is like reaching for the moon. For I tried it for many years now but I was not successful to have some flowers wiith my bananas.
But with my new knowledge and thanks partly to Joe I have a better chance now. |

But here's one that is asking for the authenticity of the picture.
Re: enano gigante

Greenie,
Is this a different dwarf Cav than the regular one? Mine always fruits at about 5 ft of pseudostem with the fruit hanging at about chest and waist height. Your pics look like they are a lot taller?
Terry
If what Terry was saying is true, that is much better for me so I can plant one in a wine barrel and I don't have to dig it out during Winter time. |

Okay Benny,
I have ENANO GIGANTE, that was originally given to me by Jon (pitangadiego). All of its leaves are fried right now, but it consistently grow back each year, and I know it is still alive. So I would rate this as medium hardy, but it would be hard to fruit in our area. Most cavendishes, except the sweetheart, would have no chance of fruiting in Davis if planted inground and not dug out every fall and replanted in spring.
So rather than holding the poor plant hostage, I'm giving it a new home in your backyard. I think it will be able to fruit in your area since you have a lot milder winter than we do here.
It's free, so don't bid on eBay!
I have a sweetheart banana, which should bear fruit as heavy as the gigante, but this is Northern California and not Florida. The biggest bunch I ever saw is just 50 lbs, and I think it will be hard to beat because we have a very short fruit-filling season.

I may have an extra "sweetheart" in the garage, but I'm not sure which ones since I lost the labels during the panic scurrying during the arctic blast. I bought 2 sweethearts from eBay for a friend who never showed up to pick them, so these are plantlets, and maybe I will give one to you. |

the one that I have in the ground is still small and don't have pups. It would be a couple of years before these ones will pup. |

I might throw in a Raja Puri too if you can tell me where to buy a cheaper Model 26 Little Giant ladder or its equivalent:
http://www.littlegiantladder.com/pages.php?pageid=9
I need to graft higher now. And my wife would not approve the budget for a ladder of that kind. Perhaps if there are used ones that you know. It has to be metamorphic ladder like the little giant and at least 20' or greater height when extended and at the A frame height should be at least 10' high. My wife would approve only for a budget of $250 ladder, so a used one is my preferred source. |
