I'm trying to figure out the difference in size between a Golden Nugget on C-35 and a Cocktail Grapefruit(Pumello?) on C-35. So far I've been told about 15 ft for the Golden Nugget, 18 ft for the Cocktail. I would have thought the grapefruit would be much larger. Can anyone add some information on this subject...

Gold Nugget on the Volk will beat the cocktail on C-35 in terms of size. As to the quality, that is another issue.

If you don't prune the tree, the cocktail would be larger than gold nugget on C-35. Grafting on the same rootstock, cocktail always grows higher. As to how high ultimately, I haven't the luxury of time to find that out myself. The gold nugget is relatively new. Who has a ten year old Gold Nugget tree for example aside from UCR?

Would Gold Nugget have any graft incompatabilities with C-35? I thought I heard that mandarin's on citrange sometimes have problems. I'm looking to convert several of my grapefruit trees on citrange to mandarins (if possible).

Phillip, I have a Gold Nugget on C-35 and it's looking pretty good. It's from Brokaw nursery...you can call them up and ask about the incompatibility problem.

Thanks John. I've got a Gold Nugget on Trifoliate, but I'd like to convert some of my citrange trees to some other cultivars. If I top work though, I'd be using my grapefruit as an interstock.
