I've spent a great deal of time reading and learning about smoking meat but that is the first time I've ever heard of using citrus wood. I've used cherry, plum, apple, crabapple, and pecan. I usually buy one of those big bags of wood that has a oak, hickory, and maple blend and it does pretty good. Last Thanksgiving my dad and I smoked a turkey using cherry wood and it was the best tasting turkey I've ever ate. Everyone kept asking me what I used and how to do it like that. |

Citrus wood adds a great flavor to meats. JoeReal is the one who turned me onto it. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Thanks for the pic Kam. Beautiful fruit. I see snow on ground..is it in ground or in a pot?
Sometimes I snip off fresh rosemary, thyme or whatever I have & throw them on coals. Adds flavor to meat & fish & smells GREAT.
Still wanting a bite of those sanbokans! _________________ Patty

Kamco,
Your Sanbokan looks different from the ones I have seen. The peel is orange, as opposed to yellow, and the flesh of the fruit has an orange color that mine lacks. It does not seem to have the number of seeds a Sanbokan normally has and, though I don't remember how many sections mine have, I looks like yours may have as many as 12. I am pretty sure mine did not have that many. Also your peel is thinner and adheres to the flesh closer than a Sambo. Could yours be something like a Mineola Tangelo?

I go along with all five differences that Ned points out. Kamco's fruit does not look like any Sambokan that I have ever grown, plus the peel is to smooth for a Sanbokan. Kamco's fruit looks like it could possible be hybrid. Especially big color difference in the pulp.- Millet (1.438-) |

I agree, not a Sanbokan. The leaves are not correct either. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Hi all,
Patty,
it was placed on the ground, but only during taking of a photo. I had it in cold room during winter. I growed it in Slovakia, Poprad region, at the foot of the High Tatras mountains. Clima and other about Poprad:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poprad
Ned and others,
it is possible, also our Czech citrus guru Mr. Broza says that Sanbokan looks like other. But I bought it as Citrus sulcata. The tree was very small, only 1 year after grafting, trifoliata is as rootstock. After this, the tree did not fruit 3 years, now it probably will be, it has about 20 buds.
The peel was yellow/orange, the flesh was sweet, sourish and it tasted like ..... a soap.
Mineola Tangelo? Perhaps.... time gives an answer
Never mind, I'm enjoying from it. _________________

Oh, so many differences! My small citrus is really not a Sanbokan, probably.
Thanks for an interesting link.

My citrus marked as Sanbokan has fruit shaped like pear, is it similar to your Sanbokan fruit?
