Just received a Sealing Wax Palm (Cyrtostachys Renda) pronounced *Sir-Toh-STAY-Kiss*. It is a red trunked palm tree. A very tender palm, as it will die at temperatures of 45F (some say 50F). The soil must be kept moist at all times. The Sealing Wax Palm is one of the most beautiful and sought after palms in the world. Many people mistakenly think they can grow them in a lightly cool area, it is simply impossible. I'm growning it in my greenhouse. It is known for its BRIGHT RED crown shaft. The Sealing Wax palm comes from Malaysia, New Guinea and Sumatra. An ABSOLUTE MUST for collectors. I am developing four back up systems to protect it during Colorado's winters. The 1-ft tall palm was $190.00. The Sealing Was Palm is a slow growing palm, it takes approximately 11 years to grow a 6/7 tree which sells for $1500.00+ for a good quality tree. Prayers welcome. - Millet

Prayers are with you...if anyone can grow it, it would be you.
Could you post a pic? Love to see it! Smile

Thats the one. Sure a good price also. Wonder what the quality is like? I am always afraid to purchase plants off of E-bay. What I have ever bought from E-bay (never a plant) I bought through Laaz. - Millet

Hi Millet I always check there first. Check their feedback... You can get some very good deals. There is a photo at the bottom of the page of the plants.

Laaz, I have a 9 ft Coconut palm already. With the difference in the price on the Sealing Wax Palm (if the E-bay plant is any good) I could have gone out to dinner with my wife. - Millet

Tammy, you win some and you loose some. I always believe you get what you pay for, thats why I do not buy plants off E-Bay. I think "I" have only "purchased" one thing from E-Bay and that was a citrus book. Actually, I did not purchase it, my friend Laaz purchased it for me using his account number. However, I was thinking, rather than using the extra money to take my wife out to dinner, I could use it to buy a tank of gas. Three days ago Charleston SC (Laaz's home) had the lowest gas price in the country. - Millet

Laaz, I'll try to get a picture, in fact I'll try to get a bunch of greenhouse pictures. However, I will have to wait until my son comes over with his digital camera. If you remember my son Mark had to take the picture of my fruiting banana tree, which is my Avatar picture, then put it on the computer and sent it to you, so you could make the Avatar. I don't have any idea how to do pictures on the computer, nor any equipment to put it on the computer. In fact I don't own any kind of camera, digital or otherwise. - Millet

Hi Millet,

Today at the Climatron at the Missouri Botanical Garden, I saw some lovely examples of your Sealing Wax Palm. The color in the pictures is quite like the color in real life. I don't know how tall your plant is, or how high they have to be to get the red coloration, but I'd say some of these were about 5-6' tall, yet the coloration was excellent.
