My wife asked me to pick up some clothes that had been altered by a seamtress who lives on my road (very close to the home with a large seedling grapefruit and several nice seedling oranges that I have previously posted) -and mentioned that they have a grapefruit tree that they don't eat the fruit of. I am thrilled to discover yet another citrus jewel practically in my backyard Very Happy
The lady told me that she and her husband don't eat the fruit due to medicine they are taking-but the grapefruit have an excellent flavor and very few seed-she told me that I am welcome to take all the fruit that I want!!! Very Happy
Here is a shot of the tree and it's fruit-

Here is a shot of the fruit on the tree and a view of the "backside" shaded portion of the tree.Nearby oak trees give it a considerable amount of shade during much of the day-

Nice find David-- There must not be many leaf miners in the area--I did not see a single leaf with miners!

Hello Skeeter, You are right-it is rather clean of leaf miners-I recently purchased a number of new trees from a nursery and most of them show at least some leaf miner trails-hopefully I will not be guilty of introducing them to Havana Shocked Now that I know of two local varieties of Grapefruit and one Sweet Orange I wish I had a slew of 3gallon size Flying Dragon to let you do a bit of inverted t budding on-just think we can become the Citrus barrons of northwest Florida in about 15 years Very Happy

Note the dark colored fruit on the shaded portion-that is old fruit that is rather dried out (very light weight) that have sprouted seed inside! I guess that they just don't want to fall off Shocked I suspect if left unpicked that they will become grapefruit mummies Very Happy

Hi David,
Hopefully, some of my FD seedlings will be big enough for grafting next fall. If so, I will be glad to try putting a couple buds on one for you in exchange for some budwood. If they are successful, maybe I could deliver it when I go over to my brothers for the fall hunt test.
