I bought a passion fruit couple months ago just to taste it, and then I planted the seeds. Does anyone know what passionflower it came from? Are there different passion fruits?
I grew Maypop (passiflora incarnata) here, but it never got fruits because of our short summers. Looking at Jung's catalog, it says "Maypop flowers are followed by edible fruit similar to passion fruit". Similar? Doesn't all passion fruit come from passionflowers? I'm confused Rolling Eyes Shocked
I also grew 3 other passionflowers that doesn't produce edible fruit, but I loved the flowers.
Thanks

I don't know, maybe this link is useful:

I got a passy month ago, should have red flowers as I was told...
About 30 cm tall, I'm thinking what to do, plant into ground this or wait till the next year ...

Thanks Ivica, that helped a lot.
Not sure which one I ate - either purple or yellow.
I would plant yours inground now - it will grow faster. Then, in fall before any frost comes or temps below 40F, mulch it up real good.

I planted a Fredrick Passion Fruit several years ago, but it died in the first frost. I replaced it with a red passion fruit, but it requires another to cross polinate in order to produce fruit. Still, it makes a great vine. My front fence and gate are covered with it and it doesn't seem to mind the gate opening and closing. I think the seeds took a while to germinate for me, but it was a pretty fast grower.

Phillip, did you get flowers the first year? We lost a month of summer from a bad spring here, and the flowers are only 4 inches high.
I guess if I don't get flowers, I'll dig them up & pot them to the sunroom for winter.

I did get flowers the first year on both of the vines I had planted. Ironically, I had planted a third passionflower to crosspolinate the red one, but it hasn't flowered. It's in a kind of shady area so I don't think it gets enough sun.
