My name is Charles and I live in Pensacola, FL just like Moderator Skeeter. I have a sweet Kumquat and a red seedless grapefruit. The Kumquat is still in a five gallon pot and the grapefruit is about twenty years old and has fruited for only the last five years. It is about twenty foot tall and appears to be very healthy. It currently is loaded with fruit. I have just bought a lot beside my house and I want to plant some citrus there as well as other fruit trees and Bananas. In researching the varieties that are available I found this forum. Almost like finding Gold in your backyard. LOL I am looking forward to posting some questions and this is my introduction. I am transforming my yard into a tropical looking garden. I currently have 7 different palms, 8 different bananas and of course my 2 citrus. I hope to soon have many more citrus. I will make some posts that list some of the ones I am looking at planting and hopefully I can get some great advise from everyone.

Hopefully this is a picture of my grapefruit tree last November. The ridiculous winter of 2010 did not phase this tree. I believe that it grew from seed here and do not think it was grafted.

Welcome Charles! It usually takes 12 to 15 yrs for grapefruit grown from seed to produce fruit, so yours is right on schedule. There is a grapefruit in SC that supposedly made it thru a 12 degree freeze.

Thanks all,

I didn't know it but I already have met Skeeter as he recently gave me a very nice Raji Puri banana. He does have a lot of knowledge and I plan to exploit it LOL We share interest in several other types of plants. Now if we could cross a banana with citrus and get them to throw pups that would be something. Of course we would have to breed that whole dying after fruiting thing out!
