Greg, too bad my kids didn't take pictures of those. I am sorting through the pictures they've taken and none are Meyer lemons.

thanks for sharing the pics Joe! I like the way those diagonal poles are set up for his trees, seems to save lots of space and it reminds me of some of the orchard pictures in Japan where they had poles that criss cross.

Joe,
Thanks for the photos, that was really interesting to see his growing setup. It looked like he had a greenhouse, what was growing in there?

Joe, why do you suppose Bob Duncan grows his apples at a slant instead as straight up? - Millet

A couple of reasons I can think of. I have heard/read for many fruits that they mature earlier when on a horizontal branch. In addition, pulling branches down slows down their rate of growth and reduces the need for pruning that also removes fruiting buds, etc. For some things, a horizontal branch will essentially stop growing. The slant positon probably provides a moderate amount of both of these benefits.

I recently returned from a trip to Holland, and seen apple growers that also grew their trees in very close proximity to each other by pruning them back hard. They were pruned back as hard as Bob Duncan's trees. However, they were all grown in a vertical manner. - Millet
