I recently purchased a Sancitchang (I believe I have the correct spelling) I bought first - and ask questions later. Laughing

Could someone provide information on this variety?

What varieties were bred to come up with is this - history etc ?
What sort of fruit is produced? (edible or not? or somewhere in between - size etc)
How cold hardy are they?

Thanks, Greg

Hey Greg from what I understand it is somewhat edible. I haven't tried any as I can grow most of the commercial stuff.

SanCitChan = San=Sanford Cit=citrange Chang=Changsha

Sounds like an interesting hybrid Greg. Is your specimen a small one gallon sized plant?
Good to have you stop by a couple of weeks ago for your brief visit. I hope the driving directions
where OK. The Northfield Rd exit is much quicker than the Old Island hwy.

Cheers, Barrie.

Thanks Barry - yes your instructions worked well... you are fortunate to have that greenhouse / coldframe!
As far as this particular plant is concerned - it is a 1 gallon specimen about 15" tall. I would imagine it is fairly cold hardy - considering its parentage.
There is no sign of trifoliate leaves from the citrange.
I wonder what citrange was used as a cross???

Greg

It should be the "Sanford citrange".

This site sheds some light on the SanCitchang.

Matthew Nichols occasionaly posts on this forum. I have a budded tree from one of Dr. Brown's trees, but have never tasted the fruit. I planted some seed and the leaves of the seedlings vary greatly in shape, with some showing poncirus characteristics, and some showing none.

As I understood, it is a Sanford citrange x Changsha mandarin cross.
