Just got a fruit from local Kroger with several seeds. So, I am curious whether Ugli (aka Uniq) comes true from seeds?
Thank you! |

Well, guess I found the answer to my question: since Ugli seeds are monoembrionic, fruits will not come true from seeds. That is sad. |

Grow it anyway GT, it might turn out to be even better than Ugli
I found an Ortanique seed which I will germinate to see what I get. |

Lemandarangequatelo,
that's my plan... Seeds are soaking.
Good luck with your Ortanique. |

A very good luck as I've never tasted a hybrid seedling that was as good as a commercial variety. I topworked my panzarella orange to something good. |

Apparently an ugli grown in non-tropical conditions is nothing like one grown in tropical conditions as the ones in the grocery are either. |

Mrtexas,
Thank you for wishing me luck! Yeah, I doubt the thing I may grow would produce any edible fruits. Definitely not anything like the commercial Ugli since they are tropical and require a lot of heat! Also, the seedlings may be freeze-killed some time... Anyway, eight seeds are on a damp paper towel in a zip lock on top of my PC for germination. |

So, mrtexas, are you saying that the Ugli's we can get here in the USA in the stores are not as good as those available in the tropics? I haven't seen any in my local grocery stores yet, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. _________________ Patty S.

The way I understand it is that the ones available in the grocery stores come from the tropics, Jamaica. Ones grown in the US would be much different. |

The supermarkets here in Colorado carry Ugli fruit quite frequently. They are seedy and the taste is nothing special, rather bland IMHO. They are not big sellers. - Millet (651) |
