I was just wondering if any of you were using hydroponics. Not for Citrus but for tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, peppers etc.
I have been looking at the different systems and I am kind of leaning towards the Dutch bucket system.
If you are using hydroponics, I would like to know which system you are using and opinions on all systems

Years ago we used to use a bucket system of sorts for all of our house plants-- I don't know what the system was called, but we filled the containers with lightweight aggregrate rocks (used for making lightweight concrete--I bought a pickup truck load for $20). We put a piece of pvc pipe that went to the bottom of the pot with a float and an indicator stick that reached to the top of the container. The idea was to maintain a volume of water (with dilute fertilizer) that ranged between 0 and 25% of the depth of the container. The rocks are porous and plants maintain roots in the section of the pot just above the water level. It worked great, but my wife got tired of maintaining them and got rid of all our house plants.

The only problem was maintaining the float system--every year or 2 we had to change out the float and indicator.
