Wow, looks like the Italians know how to do blood citrus right. Sure wish we could get a few of those very nice varieties here in the USA. Especially these blood mandarins. Thanks for sharing, Laaz, even if it is a little bit of torture! Shocked

I think, that original article is not about mandarin, on picture is orange Tarocco nucellare.

Azienda agro-biologica Cuticchi (CT), is a farm in Cuticchi, Sicily.

Google translation of the text:

Quote:
Agro-biological cuticchi (CT): "Adopt a tree and get organic oranges from the tree choice!"

Located in the Plain of Catania, the Company agro-biological cuticchi was purchased in early 1900 by Don Michael Cosentino, farmer, and subsequently was inherited, in the seventies, his daughter Catherine, and finally cultivated directly by her husband Salvatore. Produced cereals and legumes in alternate years until 1979, then turned into citrus and olive trees, with the next generation. Since 1995, the company cuticchi grown organically in full compliance with EEC Regulation 2092/91. The resulting products are certified by Ecocert Community control of Italy.

Organic production company cuticchi is divided between citrus and olives. Cultivars planted are respectively Tarot nucellare and Oliva nocellara Etna, the quantities produced are respectively 80-100 tonnes for oranges and 10-20 tons for olives.

Oranges "Tarot nucellare"
The Tarocco Sicilian red orange red streaks on the characteristics of the bottom of the orange pulp. Its vitamin C content is more than 25% that of the other varieties of oranges and other citrus fruits in general, this property, together with the particularly rich in anthocyanins (the pigments responsible for the red color of the fruit), which gives this result food important protective properties for the body. E 'was recently shown that the orange juice made from organic farms contains 30% of vitamin C higher than that from traditional crops.

The nucellare is a form of tarot resistant and productive oranges produced by the cuticchi have a feature exclusive colors: the geographical location of the area where the company is located, exposed to extreme temperature changes between day and night , gives these fruits of the flesh pigmentation especially pronounced.

"Through the adoption of our orange trees offer the possibility to have organic oranges from the tree of your choice! - Reveals the company responsible Unless Panebianco - We also have an ongoing promotion reserved for fair trade groups (GAS) as adopting 10 trees, we offer a weekend for two at our B & B Casalotto Inn (www.casalottoinn.com) and visit the citrus orchard, in the period from Christmas to Easter. "

Why adopt an orange tree or olives?
"Adopting an orange tree biological or organic olives of our company is able to follow the cultivation and growth and above receive their products (respectively oranges and oil) at home - continues Salvo - In this way, the consumer knows the exact origin and method of production of products derived from trees he adopted, guaranteeing a product that meets your expectations. Both oranges that are shipped with the oil attached certification of organic products. "

Adopting a plant you will receive via email a photo of the plant adopted by a code made up of the sector, the line and the number of the plant in that row. "You can choose exactly the plan to be adopted by indicating the code by looking at the map the orange and the olive" (click here for the map the orange). Always receive monthly email news about the cultivation carried out, such as pruning, fertilizing, spraying, irrigation and tillage.

"To take one or more trees organic oranges, simply print the contract (click here), fill it out, sign it and send it to our fax number or by mail to our address" indicates Salvo. "The fee to adopt one of our trees is 80 Euros (VAT included) - concludes Salvo - and involves, in the case of orange trees, shipping (the costs of which are already included in the price) of 40 kg of oranges during the year of production, divided in two shipments: the first as soon as the fruits are ripe, between December 20 and January 20, the second shipment about 30 days later, or such other date upon request. For those who plan to come to our company to collect the oranges directly from your tree adopted, the fee is 65 euro. "
