Hi I just registered and just wanted to introduce myself! My name is Vanessa. I live in Boulder Colorado. I love growing tropicals, edibles, and unusual plants/trees. I over winter all my stuff inside. So I am a indoor/ container gardener. I am new to citrus trees! I am excited to learn more about them and get started. Is there any you guys suggest for container growing? Thanks for reading this and I look forward to getting to know you all!
Sincerely,

Vannesa, welcome to the Citrus Growers Forum, we are excited to have you as a member. For a person just starting out with citrus I would recommend a Mandarin variety. Paulino Gardens on north Broadway in Denver, normally caries 6 or 7 varieties of citrus trees in 5-gallon containers. I am always happy to see another fellow Coloradoan on this forum. Again welcome aboard. - Millet |

Hi Vanessa,
Welcome to the list! I am a bit of a newbie too and I have learned a lot here. Since this is the off-topic forum, what else do you grow? I like tropicals and unusual plants and trees too.
I guess my oddest or rarest stuff is an Amorphophallus titanum for tropicals and a Eucalyptus degulpta (rainbow Eucalyptus) for trees.
My husband wants to grow more edible plants, he thinks more about vegetables, while I wish Cheetos grew on trees!

Woah you have amorphophallus titanum and Eucalyptus deglupta (rainbow bark)! That is awesome! Do you have any pics to show us? I am afraid I am not in your league of unusalness! haha. I have am in more of the range of venus fly trap or mimosa pudica! Some day I would love to have something as rare as you ... someday. *sigh* Where do you have your Amorphophallus titanum growing? Does the smell as bad as they say? That would be so cool to see in person! !
The tropicals that are my fave are Tropical Hibiscus and Brugmansias! They are just so beautiful. Tropicals are so addicting the more you learn the more you want! I am excited to plant some hibiscus hybrid cross seeds that I bought and see what new blooms they will produce!
I am just starting out with edibles myself. Just fruits. Mmmm.. I love fruit. What is your favorite plant? The next thing that I am trying to buy is of course a Citrus tree and a Miracle Fruit Tree (Synsepalum dulcificum)! I want the synsepalum dulcificum so bad but it is too cold to ship here now. I found a couple of mail order sites with it. I guess I will have to wait until spring. Shucks.
sorry so long! _________________ Vanessa

Whoa, don't get all excited! Mine is just a baby!
Here is a photo but it looks bigger in the photo than it really is. It's a little over two feet tall. This is the biggest one I've had, usually they go dormant and then the bulb croaks. So I'm crossing my fingers for this one!
I bought some rainbow eucs off ebay for $14 ea. They're pretty hard to grow. Well, not hard, but you have to water them every day, or every other day. If you miss a day and it is warm they just shrivel right up.
I love Brugmansias too, I had some little babies that grew to be about 6 ft tall before I killed them...
This year we built a greenhouse, my husband promised me one when we got married... I saved my paycheck for almost a year, well, most of it, and then bought a polycarbonate monster that took us almost 8 months to put up. Sometimes trying to save money and do things yourself isn't always the best plan!
I had planned to grow fruit trees in the ground inside the greenhouse, but I think it might be too hot in there during the summer.
My favorite fruit (right now) is lemons, but I'd like to get enough plants and expertise to grow most of my fruit that I eat- citrus, bananas, and apples! Guess I'll still have to buy my Cheetos at the store!

Vanessa, I'd reiterate what justjoan said. There's a great group of people here that have taught and shared a lot with me. I'd name them one by one, but there's so many that I'm bound to forget a few. There's a treasure of knowledge and eagerness to help . . . two qualities that are in rare form nowadays.
