Not citrus but cool.

I was out picking figs this afternoon when I noticed this variegated leaf on my brown turkey and I just think it's the coolest thing. It would be super if it would throw a variegated sport in the spring that I could take a cutting from and root an entirely variegated tree. I'm sure that the chances are slim to none but here's to hoping.

Is variegation such as this common in figs?

Are you sure those aren't areas where the cuticle has become separated from the epidermis - by insect damage, e.g.? It's hard to tell from pictures, but the underlying epidermis seems to have the same coloration as the surrounding areas.

Perhaps the coloration is actually discoloration caused by a
detached cuticle but I cannot perceive that happening with
my naked eye nor do I have a camera lens capable of a close up picture that would provide detail enough for someone else to see.

Guess I'll just have to cross my fingers that it is variegation and hope the tree produces another leaf like this one in the future.

Best,

Elsedgwick,

I borrowed a magnifying glass and took a good look at the leaf and am certain that the cuticle has not separated from the epidermis and the leaf looks very healthy. After reviewing the pictures that I originally posted I can see that it appears that the integrity of the leaf is compromised and that the that the lighter parts of the leaf are a result of light coming through it. Went ahead and took some additional pictures with a dark background to provide additional detail. Not sure why I’m so fired up about this but I am…;)

Well cool; I'll be interested in hearing if this starts manifesting itself in other leaves.
