The Center for Sustainable Energy is giving away free shade trees to residents in Orange and San Diego Counties. Visit the link below to find out more and just for fun visit the "Tree Hugger Public Service Announcement" (Yes Millet, only in California). Visit my other post in "News" regarding trees being cut down due to the water shortage.

It is very strange as every body around you are very bad people except you and farmers who grow trees were there is no water and are not happy when they must pay water coming from an other state.
The list is becoming long:
Politicians
Teachers
Public schools
Foreigners
Water suppliers
and now environmentalist.
Please think positive!

Indeed I can be wrong because of the language and culture barrier. If I misunderstood, forgive me.

Millet: you will censor this mail too I presume though the words are very polite. Hard to think "differently" on this forum.

Sylvain,
I'm an engineer that works for a water supplier, my mother in law was a teacher, I have friends in the environmental field, I went to public school, and my ancestors were foreigners (some from France). I can't speak for Millet, but in no way am I saying that these professions and groups are bad, but every group has bad components that could stand to be corrected. Whenever I raise an issue for discussion, I'm not attacking a group of people like you seem to believe, but I do tend to criticize the issue that I'm raising (which may include a component of people within each group).

Let me give you an example of another issue that directly impacts me. The water agencies in Southern California used public funds to pay for weather based irrigation controllers for the sprinkler systems. These were given away free of charge as a part of a water conservation measure to anyone who brought their old controller in. It turns out that very few people installed their new controllers correctly and ended up using more water than their old controllers (myself included). A problem clearly exists. Do I hate everyone involved? Do I hate myself? No, but why can't we criticize or discuss a problem without jumping to the conclusion that we hate everyone.

As far as the environmentalists, I like the environment and believe we should be good stewards of the resources we have. Yet there is a component of environmentalists that I believe do more harm to the environment than good. We have an environmental group here in the US that goes around burning housing developments (ELF). They not only send particulates and smoke into the atmosphere, but they destroy the timber harvested from trees. Timber that is now going to have to be replaced by more trees being cut down. It's a waste.

Anyway, I know this is a long winded rant, but my point is that I don't hate any group of people, but I do hate things and issues that I believe are clearly wrong. People might disagree with my interpretation of what's wrong or right, but I would invite them to discuss the issue on the forum and raise the points that they dispute. I have thick skin and I won't be offended unless you tell me you hate engineers with receding hairlines. Smile

Thank you Phillip.
Thank you because you took my mail for what it is not more and that is nice.
On the subject itself I can not argue because I don't know enough about USA.
I reacted on the fact that those mails seem to be always against someone or against something.
We have a saying in France that say "We don't speak about train that arrive in time". It is true that we don't speak of what is ok only of what goes wrong...

I ne pense pas que les Américains, je pense que c'est l'état d'esprit du peuple de tout le monde en général, ces jours-ci. Quand j'étais jeune, le monde n'était pas un tel gâchis que l'on connaît aujourd'hui.

I often think that that world is much worse than it used to be (even being in my 30s), but I try to think about the things that happened in the past before my time. The 1960's, WWII, the roaring 20's, the Spainish inquisition, plague, the great depression, etc. As much as I gripe about politicians, the French Smile, and California; we probably still have a quality of life that has been unmatched in the past. The one thing that I do feel is dwindling is a sense of morality and the freedoms that used to exist. I hear about things that my parents and grandparents "used to do" and it seems like another world.

If you're still watching this thread, I'd be curious to hear about the things that your parents and grandparents used to do, that make it seem like that was another world.
